People are filing for bankruptcy in record numbers and many researchers believe it is because of the lack of consumer education classes taking place in our high schools. Traditionally, young adults are taught good money management techniques and the tips and tricks of the trade towards achieving financial stability. For the people that did not have a chance to learn such information in high school can now sign up for debt credit counseling, should they find themselves in debt or if they are freshly out of debt. In a debt credit counseling class, people learn how to manage their finances so that they are spending less than what they are earning and saving money for the future as well. They will also learn how to balance their checkbooks and organize themselves so that they only use their credit cards sparingly in the case of an emergency. One tactic is to pay with only cash for three weeks out of the month because it is much harder for consumers to purchase products when they have to physically hand over the cash. Then they get to use their credit cards for the fourth week as much as they want. Even so, they find their credit card bills substantially smaller and then they start to understand that power how easily credit card spending can get out of control.
